Is this seminar right for me?
It’s a fit for most students who want expert support and greater success in physics. Power Prep is a lively, positive environment where we celebrate progress.
Some Power Prep students just need an little extra edge. Others are really struggling. Many are somewhere in between.
Is there a waiting list?
Yes. When a cohort reaches its maximum capacity we maintain a waiting list and will let you know if a space opens up at your desired time. |
Is this a lecture-style class?
No lectures. Just clear answers to your questions, and lots of practice tailored to the AP test. Power Prep is designed to help you identify the misconceptions you might have, and fine tune your skills.
Can I sit quietly in this seminar and take notes?
Let’s hope not. Power Prep students know that collaboration boosts learning. Our sessions are spent getting help, actively solving problems, and answering questions, sometimes in pairs.
If you are looking to sit quietly or talk only with the instructor, other programs may suit you better.
When is it, and what does it cover?
Power Prep runs for 10 weeks. Cohorts meet once a week, starting the week of February 24.
Select a cohort day and time that works for you (for example, Tuesdays at 5 PM).
“Power Prep Mini” (a single session now through Feb 22) offers AP Physics help and lets you preview the format and quality of Power Prep before the seminar begins.
Week of February 24 – Kinematics (subsequent weeks are cumulative)
Week of March 3 – Translational Dynamics
Week of March 10 – Work, Energy, and Power
Week of March 17 – Linear Momentum
Week of March 24 – Torque and Rotational Dynamics
Week of March 31 – Energy and Momentum of Rotating Systems
Week of April 7 – Oscillations
Week of April 14 – Mixed Review
Week of April 21 – Fluids
Week of April 28 – Abbreviated Simulated Exam
How much does it cost?
Power Prep: $0.
The 10-session online seminar is free of charge. If this seems unusual, please Google “gift economy” to learn more. The only requirement is that students participate fully. (See “What do you expect?” below.) Other AP Prep courses range in cost from $400 (sometimes staffed by a recent university graduate) to $800 or more.
Students or families may choose to offer a gift to Power Prep, or in recognition of it, but only after the seminar is over, and with no obligation.
Are there scholarships or special pricing available?
AP Physics Power Prep is a free offering at no cost.
For our other programs Advani Academics has a goal of universal access. Several seats are available for reduced-price enrollment (need-based scholarships).
What should I bring to class?
Students must
- Have reliable internet access with sufficient bandwidth for Zoom videoconferencing.
- Use a laptop or desktop computer with a working camera. (Do not attend sessions on a cell phone/mobile device.)
- Have a Google account.
How many students in the class?
Eight (8) is the maximum. We cap enrollment to ensure you can maximize your learning — and get the experience you deserve!
Do you offer 1-on-1 or small group tutoring?
We can help you with physics, chemistry, environmental science, and mathematics.
We also offer academic coaching (support with organization, goal-setting, and follow-through).
Mr. Advani’s standard rate is $210 per hour for physics and $160 per hour for other subjects. Weekly or biweekly 60-minute and 30-minute sessions.
Academic support sessions are $160 per hour. Sessions are 60 minutes, 30 minutes or 15 minutes.
Sessions can be 1-on-1 or small-group (2 to 4 students).
The current schedule for tutoring and coaching sessions is full. We anticipate openings for online sessions in late February.

What do you expect of Power Prep students?
To make the sessions work for everyone:
- Join the Zoom link at least 2 minutes prior to each session, and stay until the end.
- Participate actively. This includes things like talking with other students and using the Zoom chat.
- Please keep your camera on and your face in view. If you must pause your video for a moment, use discretion and do it when other students are not counting on you.
- Attend each session.
How much time will I need outside of the Zoom sessions?
Plan to spend 15 to 30 minutes per week (outside of the session) to answer a free-response question (FRQ), and complete a short exercise. Submit them electronically before the day of your next session. (For example, if you are in a Tuesday cohort, submit by Monday night.)
Your own paper will be personally scored by the expert instructor every other week. You will also have the opportunity to evaluate other students’ anonymous papers during class, deepening your understanding of the physics.
There is no “busy work” assigned.
What if it's not a good fit?
If you are not participating or if you miss more than one session, your seat in Power Prep will be given to a student on the waiting list.
Who teaches the seminar sessions?
Mr. Advani is the teacher for all the AP Physics 1 Exam Power Prep cohorts. You don’t need to worry about having a less qualified, less experienced instructor!
Looking forward to seeing you in class.
