On Zoom, I leverage instructional technology to help all students stay actively engaged and get what they need — to maximize their progress in the short time we have together. I like to start class on time, to enjoy a fun and challenging hour together, and to help cement their learning with a reflection on what they’ve done. Students spend part of each class discussing concepts and solving problems together in pairs and small groups, and I monitor and support their deepening understanding with prompt and precise feedback.
In the live (in-person) classroom, cooperative investigation and student discourse are foundational elements of my rigorous approach, which is phenomenon-driven, research-based, and growth-oriented. I integrate literature and the arts in my practice, to animate and deepen scientific understanding. These practices pay off — in high test scores as well as passionate careers in the sciences.

On the weekends, I enjoy friends and family, pickleball, bass guitar, gardening, time outdoors with the dogs, and learning from cultures new to me. I volunteer in in the justice system and in my community.
